A number of very different type of Car Events are run at Mondello Park under the car racing banner.
Car Racing has a summer programme usually consisting of six to seven championship rounds taking us through to a non-championship fun event in early October. Car Race events are classified as races taking place for
Motorsport Ireland (the governing body of Irish car racing) organised championships on either the National or International track layout's.
Rallycross in Ireland is a winter sport where the championship runs from September till March and is controlled by Motorsport Ireland. Rallycross races are run on a mixed surface course usually with a 60%-40% split between Tarmac and Loose Surfaces. Rallycross is run in heats against the clock with driver best times counting towards the finals where the races become first past the post. One Rallycross round will be run during the Summer months this season when the British Rallycross Championship visits Mondello Park in June.
Time-Attack is organised and controlled by Mondello Park and is a competition for closed cars derived from production cars which have been modified to a greater or lesser extent depending on which class they run in. Time-Attack is all about lap times with no actual wheel to wheel racing and only a drivers single best time in the final run of the day counting towards the results.
There are two types of
Rallysprint run at Mondello Park, mixed surface events and all Tarmac
events. Both events take the form of a single venue rally with a drivers total time for all runs counting towards the results, despite them completing multiple laps of the track on each run and their being other cars on track at the same time.
